Why does my laptop produce a high-pitched squeaky interference sound in the speakers and headphones. It's not very loud but its enough to annoy a person when they are trying to listen to music quietly. BTW its a 3-4 year old hp laptop with a pentium III 800 running Windows XP. If I remember correctly our old Acer Aspire desktop made the same types of noises. The pattern of the noise changes when you move the mouse or click on something. When you click and drag the scrollbar on the web browser the noise goes away completely. I know there's probably nothing I can do to remedy this issue but I just though I would try to get some insight on why it happens.

I believe you can upgrade to a different sound card if all else fails...

I hope u r using external speaker n not ur built speakers.
Do u use a wireless mouse or keyboard, they may be getting interferred with the EM field of Motherboard Circuit. If there is noise for this reason then u may be attracting a much bigger problem, to burn ur motherboard.
These kinda of noise arise from electricity leakage from the electronics equipments, even the moise us hear when a Cell phone is communicating is due to this fact.
Check ur earth terminal of the power supply at ur home, use a surge protector immediately. Get ur laptop tested by a professional to see if there is some leakage path for electrcity.
If that doesn't help then ur sound card is the reason.as its an old laptop these probles will arise.
