Noisy Northbridge!

Hey guys. About 2 months ago my computer starting to make horrible groaning sounds (sounded like a jet engine taking off). The sound would come in waves and then as the computer slowly opened to my desktop the noise stopped. So I thought it was my power supply, so I bought a brand new one. Still nothing! It's still doing it! I then decided to open my PC up and check to see where the noise was coming from. Stupid northbridge fan. My dad has another exact motherboard in his computer, so I took out his fan (with his permission:D) and replaced mine. It finally stopped after that. However, a week later it is doing it again... what could be the problem?

if you know its the northbridge fan, then i would make sure nothing is getting in the way of the fan (wires, plastic ties, ect). If theres nothing in the way, i would buy a new northbridge fan, which you can buy on newegg.

Nope there is nothing getting in the way of the fan. However, why do you think that it only makes the noise when it is booting up?

Oh, it only makes the sound while booting up? My computer makes a loud noise when booting up, but i think its my gfx card fan. It may be because it doesnt know the temp that its at, so the fan may be trying to spin at its max.

Yeh, my CPU fan does that, its only quick though, lasts for like 10 seconds. Then fluctuates through by itself when it figures itself out.

Ya, that sounds a lot more reasonable. But the only thing is that it comes in waves... it'll groan then stop for a split second then groan again and it repeats this process until it finally just stops.

if its a little noisy during startup then whats the problem? as long as it works fine... i mean ive got a vantec tornado turned down with a fan controller and its still noisy... just play some music or somethin

No, I'm just curious about whats making it do this. It only does it during start-up and no time else.

Cuz its supposed to. Fans power on to max and then they throttle to an idle speed :)

I love my asus......... no noisy Mobo fans!
Im sorry, you're missing out ;)
