Noivice needs help with ram upgrade

so i desktop with spec below

CPU
Intel Core i7 950 Quad CPU 4 x 3.06ghz

Motherboard
GIGABYTE SKT-1366 X58-USB3

Memory
12gb Corsair DDR3 1600Mhz 1.65v (System Max 24gb)


now i have bought some:
Kingston HyperX T1 Black Series - Memory - 12 GB : 3 x 4 GB - DIMM 240-pin - DDR3 - 1600 MHz / PC3-12800 - CL9 - 1.65 V - unbuffered - non-ECC

i have fitted it but the computer is sooooooo slow.

please help. what have i done wrong. the computer works fine with one of the sets in but not both together
 
Did you combine it with the Corsair?
If so their probably different timings. You need to match up your RAM as close as possible if not able to get exactly the same kind to combine in banks.
But to be completely honest 24GBs is overkill... But hey, if your like me, max it out even though you'll never use it, noting at all wrong with that

It's not overkill for what I use the machine for... Trust me on that.

Where and what are the timings??? What would they look like??
 
RAM timings are represented by 4 numbers usually with dashes separating them. CL, TRCD, TRP, and TRAS. CAS Latency, Row Address to Column Address Delay, Row Precharge Time, and Row Active Time. Modern DIMMS have a special ROM chip that auto configs memory timings. Sometimes you can adjust these settings in your overclock menu in your BIOS where you would overclock your DRAM settings, if your (BIOS manufacture includes this feature) . And actually most any case going over 8GBs is overkill, you will see a difference in only capacity, not performance.

for example your Corsair most likely has a 9-9-9-24 timing

But really you need to send the Kingston back and get identical RAM...

Ah ok that wasn't listed in the ad. I made sure everything else matched. Which of the two rams would you say is the better.
 
What kind is your Corsair? Vengeance or XMS3?
well, really, regardless of the make I would go with Corsair

Doesn't look as cool as the kingston, with its funky heat spreaders and all, but that's what I would go with; Corsair
(that's strictly due to personal experience and preference)
 
So I listed both sets of memory on eBay and the corsair sold first so I'm going with 24gb of Kingston hyperx t1. I like the heat sinks on it anyway...
