Non-existent hard drive?

Hi I have two Maxtor hard drives, one is 6L080J4 and the other is 6Y120P0.

One of those drives has 2 OS, vista and xp. The other one is fully formated and clean.

When I connect both drives to my desktop, and I boot on either vista or xp, I simply can't find that other drive... All I can see is the second partition which holds the other OS... But the other hard drive doesn't appear on My Computer.

What can I do? I want to use it for storage of files, hopefully to be visible to both xp and vista.

FYI: I can see both hard drives on Device Manager.

Agreed. If it is not located in Disk Management or Device Manager, then it's more than likely a hardware problem.

Ok so I checked it all again, First of all let me show you some screens of what I see on My Computer regarding hard drives:

This is from XP OS. Shows C: (XP) and F: (Vista)

This is the Device Manager from XP partition

Doubt the yellow question marks affect me in this problem, since it aint raid.

Now here is from Vista OS. Shows C: (Vista) and D: (XP)

And Device Manager from Vista partition

Once again, doubt that the raid controller affects this...

What I did was to plug the drive that doesnt show up as master and booted with Gparted. I deleted the drive and left it as unallocated space, is that correct?

Should I have the jumper configuration set to Cable Select? Or should I simply specify Master and Slave?

My hard drive with the dual boot is Jumper Style A, and the unrecognizable drive is Jumper Style B & C

No, what shows up on My Computer is the second partition of the other OS in the dual boot system.

For example: if I boot with XP the 2nd drive on My Computer is Vista
and vice versa.

The Device Manager recognizes the hardware (the other drive) but I can't use it on My Computer, it's as if it weren't there.

I formated using Gparted on boot and nothing happens... I have done this before for other drives and worked, but this one in particular aint working.

Hope I made myself clear.

Umm...this may sound a little stupid... but are you sure that the partition is set active, or that there is one? Any chance you could post a screenshot of Disk Management?

Ok, so here is the Disk Management screenshot.

And as you can see, taken right after, is this screenshot of Device Manager, showing that it sees both hard drives.

And this was done under these jumper settings:
(main drive with 2 OS, is under Master 9 &10)
(second drive is under Cable Select 5 & 6)

The drive appears to be not formatted in a readable partition. If there's no information on there try right clicking and going for a format. Windows won't mount a partition/drive that isn't NTFS or FAT.

Yes that helped... stupid me thought the drive was of 30GB... when instead it was of ~70GB, and the label on the drive was scratched out so I couldnt read it. Thats why I thought it didnt exist when I saw it on Disk Management.

Thanks for the help everyone
