Non printing Lexmark

Problem : I recently replaced my defunct Toshiba laptop (XP2-home ed) with a new Acer laptop with XP2-pro and McAfee security suite . Can’t get the old Lexmark 5700 printer to work on the new Acer. I had to get a new parallel to USB adapter cable and the Acer does detect the printer and install the driver included in XP. Always get an error message when I try to print. I’ve checked the cartridges and gone thru the trouble shooting procedure to no avail.

Any idea’s on what’s wrong ?
