noob cpu question.

built my first system recently. I noticed when opening cpu-z my core clock on my e4500 was low. I understand there is a thing in bios that lowers it when its not being used, but i ran orthos as suggested and it only went up to 1.4ghz from 1.2ghz...

Looked in bios and noticed the multiplier goes to 11 but it set at 7. I know zero about overclocking at the moment (trying to learn) but should i just put this at 11? Is my cpu underclocked right now?

Considering you have a AMD processor, you may have Cool and Quiet on which slows down the CPU during idle timeswith less load. It is wise to turn that off when overclocking

He mentioned he had an E4500, which is an Intel.

What you can do is try manually setting the multiplier to 11x, and disable SpeedStep and C1E.

set it to 11 and it went to stock 2.2ghz... ran orthos overnight just incase, no probs.

I'm glad, my 3dmark score and cpu score wasn't very good and now both have improved 35%.

Now i just need to learn how to OC correctly :).
