NOOB HDMI question

so i heard that it carries both video and audio signal. does that mean if i hook the cable up i will not need the audio line in?

If the signal to the TV is carrying and supports HDMI, you will not need any audio inputs. I hope this answered your question.

Think about it, does your video card send out audio in its signal? If it did, yes HDMI is all you would need.

Except I don't know of any video cards that transfer sound as well. A lot of video cards have S-Video ports, and S-Video is capable of transferring sound, but because the video card is not, you have to hook up audio cables as well.

EDIT:
I take that back... your card has built in 5.1 HDMI audio, so if you just plug it into your TV sound should come out the TV speakers along with the video.

i'm plugging into a lcd monitor though not a tv. it should work the same way? i would try it but i'm at work now so i'll try when i get home.

But integrated speakers suck, at least the ones I've heard. With all the money you've poured into your PC perhaps you've come across a great monitor with good built-in speakers?
