noob-installed ram, now errors, help!

Great site, just started here but learned tons so far. well my problem is my hp had 512 and i added a gig to go up to 1.5. installed easy enough, but when i rebooted i got a message saying "checking file system on c: you have 9 seconds to abort this, and disk needs to be checked for consistency, then starts and says it is a 3 stage process stg 1 file verification complete, stg 2 verifiying indexes complete, then stg 3 starts and says recovering orphaned files and scrolls thru 1000's of files, and then it ends and says insuff. space on disc to recover data. it only went to the end 1 time and said insuff. space, 5 or 6 other times it would just stop at 25% complete of stage 2. Also if i abort the disc check and boot around it, after it loads my windows settings, it says something like file not found and recovered from log, if i click o.k., then it starts to reboot all over again starting with the disc needs to be checked, but if i close the box without checking o.k., then windows loads and that is how i am here typing now, i tried to defrag my c drive but it said dskchk needed or scheduled, what is going on here ? please help me! oh ya and when i got here my homepage was diff and my favs list was alphabetyzed, almost like windows restored defaults. Help!

The disk check utility will continue to prompt until you let it finish it's run completely. With a Windows installation disk onhand you can get around some of that by running the system file checker utility from the Run prompt off of the Start menu. That will verify and repair/replace any of the basic system files found damaged or missing. Afterwards go into the "command prompt" found in accessories to manually type in "chkdsk /r". That will force a scheduled run of the check disk utility on the next system restart. That checks the hard drive itself for errors. But you now have instructed it to repair any found. Let it run through to see if that clears the constant problem where it's now being interrupted and restarting again and again and... ?!

i went to the command prompt and set it to do a dskchk at next reboot, and this was a 5 stage instead of a 3, it took an hour and a half to complete and there was a "bad cluster of something" somewhere in the windows registry. windows fixed itself, i rebooted and ran a scan with pc mighty max, found 42 serious errors, fixed them, rebooted again and have never,ever, had my machine run this fast. I have to thank this forum and PC eye, I may have someday fixed it without you, but not nearly as quick or as efficient, truely, Thank you.
