I know next to nothing about all the specs for computers. I've always been a console gamer and just used pc for internet and music. I'm wanting to get a new gaming pc to start playing games on my pc but its making my head hurt from all the options and I don't know what alot of stuff really matters and what doesn't. Every pc I've ever had was in the $800 range and that included monitor and printer so I've never had anything really great.
Where is the best place to get a good custom pc for a nice price? Dell, HP, Alienware, other? I don't want to spend a fortune on top of the line specs, nor do I want a computer that will be obsolete in one year. I've seen alot of people mention ecollegepc.com on here but I'm just kinda weary about some 3 man run company. I like the idea of being able to have a tech come fix my computer if needed instead of shipping my computer off and waiting to have it shipped back.
What kind of components are the most important? I know that RAM is very good. I was thinking of getting 4GB. Is that enough or do I need more? I don't have any idea what the difference is between all the different kind of processors. Dual, Quad Core, etc. Is Intel or AMD brand the best? I've never bought a graphics card in my life, so I'm clueless there. What does a motherboard do?
My computer and 55" Sony Bravia are in my living room and I want to be able to hook my computer up to it for gaming if I want to but 90% of the computer use will be done at the computer desk. What do I need to do special to do this? Will I need some sort of switch so I don't have to hook and unhook cables from the back of the computer whenever I want to switch between tv and monitor? Will audio come across my surround sound if I run HDMI to my reciever then to my tv? Can my wife surf the internet on the monitor if I'm playing a game on my tv? I'm thinking no but I just want to be sure.
