Noob Trying To Overclock (Help?)

I have AMD Overdrive installed and I am thinking about overclocking, if so how do I go about this? And should I overclock my ram too?

Here are my specs:
3.1 Gigahertz Dual Core AMD Processor Athlon II
4 Gigabytes of DDR 2 (Corsair of course)
A GA-MA785GM-US2H Gigabyte Motherboard http://us.test.giga-byte.com/Product...ProductID=3454
320 Gigabyte IDE Hard Drive
And three fast and cool fans installed, along with thermal paste and whatnot.

So what should I overclock to and how do I use AMD OD to do that?

Thanks for all of your help ;)!

Awesome, thank you but hey what would a dual core 3.1 ghz be safe to overclock at with a decent cooling system?

Right now my 3100 is OCed at 3500 and the temperature is currently under control.
But my HD is a bit hotter than usual.

Every CPU is different. You gotta just benchmark it with Prime95 for a few hours and keep an eye on the temps.

I think the upper limit for your CPU is around 3.6Ghz

I dont know how much real world performance your would gain from that tho.

Motherboards these days are very well made. most settings on Auto, just slowly bump up the FSB until the computer doesnt post, and bring it back down and try to load windows. once windows loads, run Prim95 to test for stability.

3.6 is probably the upper limit with everything on auto......

3.8ghz should be attainable even on the stock cooler. 4ghz is possible with a better cooler.
