Noobie questionsss

Ok, so i have a Custom made computer that i got about a year ago and im thinking about upgrading the RAM and the Video card and maybe the Power supply. Its mainly a Gaming and School PC. Just to give you alil more info on my PC heres what i have in it right now.

AMD Sempron 2600+
nVidia geforce 4 MX440
430w Mid tower X dreamer II
PC chips K7 M848A motherboard
1 512mb RAM Mushkin 184pin

keep in mind that i did not make this computer, nor did i actually buy it (kinda inherited). It runs pretty good, except for the old owner over heated the computer and the front panel sound controls got all melted and dont work now. and some of the LED lights are goin out, But im pretty sure thats jus whats happens over time, But i was wondering if i should upgrade my power suppy?

Here are acouple things im thinking about getting to try and get my computer Up and running strong. Lemme know what you think about them and if theres anything better? or any Suggestions im all ears :)

I'd recommend upgrading throughly. The RAM is FAR too expensive for that. You could get lots fast memory and lower cas times for $23...

$250 could get you a base system, better than your current system...

$350 could get a much better system, 7300/7600...

ect... Recommend a new computer alltogether.

GFX stinks BTW. And you don't have PCI-E x16

Video Card: $85

RAM: $25

PSU: $35

So another 512MB stick of RAM, a 7600GS, and a very efficient PSU for about $150.

You're kinda stuck with your CPU though unless you can find something better for your socket A board. It's up to you if you want to do a brand new build or not, I'm sure oscar will post some specs for a new budget system up.

Yea i know, i need a new system. I just dont have the money right now to Make/build my own.

Agreed, Socket A is not worth spending that much money on plus you only have AGP so the PCIe card wont work anyway. Save up your money and upgrade to a AM2+ or 775 alittle later.

am2+ is the AMD mobo socket type, so ur processor would have to be am2+, i think these are usually the quad core.

775, is the INTEL mobo socket type, so ur prossesor would have to be socket 775 to work w/ this mobo.

If you can't afford to build a new system I think that the $150 or so you will spend is worth it if you don't play ultra-demanding games. Plus, the new PSU can be used on a new system in the future.
