This may sound really stupid, but I dont know if im having a mother board problem or a problem that is in the system. Here is the problem, whenever I am on for more than 20 minutes or in a game such as cs,RO,MOH, my computer shuts off. After it shuts off i can't turn it back on for 10 minutes. I thought my computer was over heating so i took off the panels of my case to let more heat out, but it still shuts off. I dont know what the problem is and i can't do my term paper with this interference. Please can some one HELP!

When you say you cannot turn it back on for ten minutes what do you mean? It just refuses to turn on? It turns on but right back off? It starts up but then freezes? would be a bit more helpfull to know. Sounds alot like a heating problem but could be power supply.

Most people think that removing the sides fromt the pc helps to cool the system hehehe I see it often enough that it drives me crazy! Anyhow this can cause a computer to overheat in fact unless you place a fan near the case or the room has tones of circulation and it would have to be alot ;-). You see with the sides on the case the fans do the work of controlling the airflow but after the sides are removed they no longer control it so well and then overheating occurs. If a case has very few to no fans then perhaps removing the sides may help but very little and the pc would prob still tend to overheat.

Of course run a virus scan as always and check for spyware and the likes plus it would not hurt to run reguler maintenance such as delete unecessary crap and defrag and such as well as clean the pc internaly as dust will cause a pc to overheat and I've seen similier problems as yours where it went away after a good cleaning. Oh and speaking of fans make sure that they all are working and that goes also for the videocard if there is a fan on yours. Some might forget about the power supply fan or fans but you have to check those also.

Ok, thank you. It won't turn back on period. When it turns off, i press the power button but nothing happens. What would be wrong with my powersupply. Im running 480wats to my computer. Is that to much? would to much power be the problem or not enough?

I'm gonna go with what blue said and say it's an overheating problem. A little more info on the system would be helpful though. Like what CPU, Mobo, ram, PSU brand you running. If it turns out to be a PSU problem there's a chance the fuse blew or the caps are going. If this is the case it's always safer to just buy another one instead of trying to fix your own (even I don't mess with PSU's).

Im dealing with 111 degees to the systm and 105 to the processor.
K8T Neo2 FIR
Althron 64 3500
vga fgorce 6600 gt
power neo, 480neo( i think thats what my power supply is). What is a psu? Im a noob remember.
512 ram ( 1 stick)

PSU is power supply unit. And that might be the part that could be failing. If it's getting voltage spikes or drops that could cause your computer to do what it's doing. It could also be that you have a shutdown temp enabled that automatically shuts down the computer at a certain degrees. You would need to go into BIOS and check that to see if it's on or not.

no, it cant be 105C. At 111C the motherboard would emit the mysterious blue smoke which, after released makes electronics stop working :D

ya, thats what it is. Im still have problems. Would reinstalling Win help any?
Well 105F isnt that hot really so heat shouldnt be posing a problem for you ... do check the voltage for stability though :)

i had a similar problem on my very old computer, the fan on the processor wasnt working and there was no heatsink, when i used the computer for about 10-20 minutes, i would get a blue screen (which was win98's way of dealing with errors, winxp shuts the computer off). In order for me to use it i had to take a window fan and have it blowing on high into the motherboard/cpu area (the case was off) so make sure that your cpu fan is working and that you have a heatsink, if you don, try doing what i did :P

ok...the problem is solved. Ok, here is or was the problem, my power supply had a defective or something melted in side. So every time i turned it on, it would heat up and then shut off cause of some weird electrical thing that shuts it off. I dont know, but its fixed. THANK YOU, EVERYONE WHO TRIED TO HELP THIS NOOB. I thank you
