Normal RAM usage?

I have gotten 2 low memory messages on my computer, and I'm wondering why. I have 40gb on my hard drive open right now, and could easily free up more but I'm pretty sure thats not the problem. my RAM usage though is at 25% idle at startup, for some reason I feel like this may be more than usual. Is 25% RAM usage idle at startup normal for windows 7 ultimate? I have 3gb of ram.

Low ram usage has nothing to do with hard drive space. It's all about installed system memory. 3 gb of memory should be plenty unless you are running multiple applications at once. If your motherboard will support it, install total of 8gb.

I only mentioned the hard drive space because of the low memory messages that I got. It can be caused by RAM, or hard drive space.

Low memory is from installed memory, low disk space is for the hard drive. Your system can use hard drive space as memory though, called page fle. However, it mainly based off your system ram. You may have too many programs running at bootup as well.

I dont think so. I already turned most of them off. All I have now is the program for my wireless adapter and one for my graphics card. but you never really answered the question. Is 25% RAM usage at bootup normal?

That seems a little high for 3GB of RAM, but it's not totally unreasonable. What processes are utilizing the most memory at bootup?

25 percent memory usage is normal as far as i'm concerned. I run 8gb and i'm at 20 percent at bootup.

Have you done a virus and malware check on your system. Maybe there is something running in background that might be causing a problem.
I remember way back, when my brother got into computers and called me about the same message. I asked him how many windows or processes he had open(going). He said a lot. :-)
I also run about 20 percent.

Sorry, I'm just used to Linux. :P Doesn't it handle memory different somehow, making it look like it's using less memory at bootup even though it's not? I thought I saw that somewhere.

Couldn't tell you, not a linux person.

I ran a scan not too long ago, and didn't find anything. also I didn't see any unusual processes running.

EDIT: I havent gotten any more of those messages, it seems to have fixed it self. I'm not too worried about it if 25% is normal, but I will turn off some programs for bootup.

ANOTHER EDIT: I also just checked the task manager and it's running at like 15 - 20%, so I think I'm good.
