First attempt failed, then next available update attempt failed..and third. Now its flashing "at risk" WTF. When I read the details after the initial failure it said not to worry, still protected etc and to wait for the next available patch. Well, the last few have'nt been successful. Anyone else have this happen while useing windows xp or vista? I've never had it happen with xp. I been useing vista for the past 3 weeks. The updates worked fine for the first week n a half or so.

Norton really isn't good virus protection, you can ask anyone here. It's over priced and needlessly bulky, slowing down your system. Try using AVG Free... I've been using it on Vista for about 4-5 months now, and it's treated me great.

Norton does'nt slow my system down much, sometimes not at all even while performing a scan it's hardly even noticeable while watching vids/ listening to music and useing other small programs. I've used AVG in the past and had some issues with it. I had slower performance with avg opposed to norton, plus avg missed viruses that norton picked up after I swapped programs.

hmmm, never happened to me.
why don't you just download the update file from symantec ? and apply it offline ?
and one thing i've noticed with vista is that, vista has issues with the norton update file.
it always says the program is not installed correctly !!!
i suggest you change antivirus eventhough u like norton

Why do I get this message?
-A program patch downloaded from LiveUpdate is unable to install on your computer.

Does this message mean that I am unprotected from the latest threats?
-No, it does not. Critical security updates, such as Virus Definitions, do not display this error message. Further, Automatic LiveUpdate will continue to protect you by downloading these critical updates in the background.

Is Symantec aware of this problem?
-Symantec collects data for every LiveUpdate patch failure that occurs on any computer in the world and takes action based on the number of times a patch fails. In other words, if you're reading this page, then we're already aware of this problem and are likely investigating a way to fix it.

What can I do now?
-First, wait two weeks and then run LiveUpdate again. In most cases, Symantec will re-publish an updated version of the patch within that time. Keep in mind that Automatic LiveUpdate will continue to download critical security updates while you are waiting, so you are still protected during this time. If you still cannot install the patch in two weeks, then click the "What if this didn't work?" link at the bottom of this article.

Can I continue to run LiveUpdate and simply ignore this error?
-Yes, you can. Other program updates will download and install even if you continue to receive this error.

I got a 90 day free trial with my pc, was already installed. I bought the 360 for 39 bucks cause I planned on sticking with it, pretty inexspenisve if you ask me. I have'nt even unwrapped it yet, was in no rush cause the trial has lots of time left.

I un/re installed from disc and its working mint. My pc isnt anyslower with it either, it also reboots as fast as it did with no antivirus at all. I notice alot of people saying norton slows ya down alot more.

I was mostly concerned with useing vista, I'm a noob with it and I keep hearing about programs conflicting, even some new ones.

I messed up, I actually got 2008 not 360. 39 bucks for one year and you can load it into 3 systems.

thanks
