Norton Error

Hello all, does anyone know what this error is 0x800706BE ??

Norton keeps on stopping prematurely and giving me this error on a full system scan. It never used to do it just recently, I've tried doing a clean install and no joy from that either. It is only the 90 day trial from my Asus drivers disk.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit and the system is only a month old if that. I did google the error code and it covers a wide range of different problems on windows in general (as if its the standard code for something it don't know what the problem is). There was also some sites with the "your computer is gonna die" and (this is a serious error" but they where selling programs so don't really believe them.

All help appreciated.

It does cover a wide range of things..my friend got that error with a XP service pack install problem..

My strong recommendation is to completely remove Norton, and chuck the disc in trash.

You can get a variety of great anti-virus/system suites for free all over the place.

I use Avast! but avg8 is good, as are a number of the freebies.

NORTON IS TRASH AND SHOULD BE LEFT BY THE CURB FOR PROPER DISPOSAL BY PROFESSIONALS

Did any of those sites have "Anti Virus 2009" on them and such?

Anti Virus2009 is a rouge spyware program and if you are getting these sites it is likely you are already infected..

Please see Important: Please read before posting. :)

I know norton is not the best, mainly because it uses alot of resources, but i'm only using it as I've got it free.

I do intend on getting something better soon but not sure what, tried ksapersky and don't like it, don't mind AVG. But until I can get the money Norton will have to do, thats why I want to know what this error is and if its serious or not.

Atm it will do a quick scan but it wont do a full one. I can do a custom and do say the HDD and its fine, then just do start up and its fine and so on but full scan just wont have it.

Nah not getting that come up, just get microsoft support and other forums, but what the problems on them sites cover is not what I getting but it still has the same error code which is strange

Hey man,

there is no need to spend money...get a freebie one.

Try free Avast! It's my fave right now.

Ya no need to pay for Anti-Virus software and such, just use the free ones!

A friend of mine had Norton System Works 2009 on their computer and complained it was running slow, i removed NSW and installed Avira it found over 30 Trojans and such, Ad-Aware found like 400 Tracking Cookies. :)

My advice, dump Norton their detection rates are good but for the resources they take it's not worth it.

Try Anti-Vir it's the best one I've ever tried best of all it protects against those nasty sites that try to download malware onto your computer, as long as you click deny access of course. ;)

Are you running any other protection?
Eg: Anti-Spyware, Anti-Malware, Firewall?

:)

Nah just the Norton AV centre, I'm running that Malwarebytes program in the "plese read before posting" sticky at the top of theis section of the forum and its scanned more files than norton does before it stops and found nothing atm, and hopefully wont *touches wood*.

I think if I do go down the freeware route it will probably be AVG. The better half has it on here laptop and I quite like it.

Just finished the scan (alot wuicker than Norton) and it found nothing, so I guess Norton is broke and as it wont fix on a clean install it is going.

Heres the results anyways:
