Norton Problem

I have Norton Antivirus 2005 and lately I have had a problem with it, while trying to turn on auto-protect it says "Norton AntiVirus has encountered an internal program error." is there any way to resolve this?

NOTE: I have had this probmel for awile, I have tried re-installing Norton with no effect.
 
cuz you're using a downloaded copy? my bud is having the same problem cuz it is not store bought.
