Not Enough power?

What would happen if I didnt have enough power for my computer while it was under load playing a game? WOuld it freeze up?

Basically I was OCing my SLI 7800 GTX's and it decided to lock up on me about 30mins into gaming (Joint Operations.) Ive never had this problem before, only after I OC'd the cards. They arnt overheating, they both stay at or below 60c while gaming.

Overclocking can cause stabiltiy problems in general, regardless of the power(or lack of) and heat. Though you could be running out of power, I kind of doubt it. My guess is you're just pushing the GPU's too hard.

I don't have personal experience in this, but my dad once told me about when my brother got a new harddrive that required more power than his supply put out, and so my brother's harddrive kept overheating and eventually stopped working. I'm not sure why this is, but apparently it isn't very good to not give your computer enough power lol. Bad stuff happens.

I seriously doubt lack of power would cause an overheating problem... At least not for the hard drive. Now the power supply might start getting too hot.

Okay well, just incase someone cared about this problem I finally got around to solving it. I pulled out my dad's power meter and checked how many watts my computer aws drawing. It ended up being about 456W without overclocking. I decided to purchase a new 600W powersupply since my dad was willing to pay for 1/2 the price in exchange for my old powersupply for an HDTV reciever computer in our living room.

I ended up purchasing This PSU from FRYS. I got home, installed it (bigger task then it sounds in a P180 case.) It no longer freezes up at the OC settings in sig.
