NOT putting the laptop to sleep

I have two machines in two different floors and I sometimes share files between the two.

If I set the machine (on AC) to go to sleep, I can't access it. I have to walk upstairs to turn it on so I can transfer the file, which is defecting the purpose of sharing.

If I don't turn the machine to laptop, what would be the harm, and how much electricity we are talking about?

When the laptop is on, but screen off, and no other activity, how many watts it takes to keep it available?

When you put a machine to sleep or hibernate there will be no network connectivity cause it shuts the system down. About the only thing you can do is put the monitor to sleep.

Yes, that's my setup now. The SSD should consume very little joice, and the HHD for data shouldn't be spinning (?), so the fan should not be turning?

Only if you have it set to power down after so long.

Only if you set it to go to sleep will the cpu fan shut down.
