Not reading my card?

I just got my Geoforce 8400GS today, and was trying to install it. I put it into the PCI-E slot, and put the VGA cable into it. I turned on the computer, the monitor won't read it. I tried everything I could think of, but nothing works!

I went under BIOs and changed the Video adapter thingy to PCI-E x1 and x16. Niether work. I chatted to a few people and they said look for Chipset under BIOs, but I coulnd't find it. I tried disabling the Defult Intel Onboard card, but that didn't help at all.

I have a Compaq Presario. One of the chatters said it might be a unupgradable PC... what? Can't all PCs upgrade?

Well,I'd really like this to work, please help! Thanks

it makes no sense...and i dont even hear about what the "unupgradable"...
make sure you get that card in port tightly first
perhaps it's your computer cant switch to single card mode automatically...
I cant tell unless I see it

reset the motherboard.

if that does nothing then can you boot up using the old video card, and see if windows sees the nvidea in device manager. If not, maybe it's knackerd...

Can the motherboard definately support the card?

How do I reset the motherboard?

And how would I know if my motherboard can handle it?

and as far as I've tried(I'll try again soon) Device manager will not read the card. I've put in the Driver CD and it won't read it. I've scanned a few times, nothing.

I put the card in all the way, but like I said, i'm going to double check everything.

I love hardware >_>
