So here is some back ground, I bought a Hp amd 64 bit laptop, and it had problems from the get go. I had to send it in to get repaired because keys I was pressing didnt work, when i got it back it was fine, now several months later it kept getting hot and somtimes shutting itself off so i only put it on metal and wood surfaces to help with heat, so one day it just powers off and decided to not come on again, i take it to the store since it is on warrenty and they blow some dust out and try to boot it, they tell me my motherboard is fried, well i have some info i want to save off my hard drive so i buy a usb and a firewire enclosure, to put the laptop hard drive into and try to copy my files, but the drive never shows up, it says its pluged in and the remove hardware safly thing comes up but i cant access the drive, i have tried changing the jupers on the drive to slave or cs and master even prohibit but none worked. anyone know what to do?

thanks

have you formatted it? that might be your prob. just got to control panel> admin tools>computer management then go down the list on the left handside until you see disk management then you should see your external drive. right click and and it was say format, format it and then it should be working and add relevant partitions if ya need any. that should do it. hope it works!

Remember that formatting deletes all the data on the disc. It's harsh that this is your only option, unless there's some extravagent and long-winded method to get that data.

yeah i jus realised, ignore me, jus re read it. yeah i dont no of any other options and formatting is harsh. i have heard that there is software that can extract from your hd but i think you hd may have to e down, im not sure, am on the search!
