Not starting after restoring

I have an acer aspire predator pc with windows vista home premium.
I restored my system today because everything was running way too slow and for some reason I couldn't uninstall some programmes that I no longer wanted.
I restored my pc through acer restore management.
Whilst restoring, a message appeared saying "restore fail". Since then, pc will power up, but systems won't start. Pc starts to boot up, but then I can only get a black screen with small flashing _ in top left corner of screen. Before this happened, disk read error, press ctrl+alt+del to restart message was on screen. Pressed them keys, but nothing happened.
Can anyone please help me?

Have you checked in the bios to make sure everything`s being picked up.
@ jamesd1981. I haven't got a clue what a bios is, never mind how to check everything is being picked up. I don't really know that much about computers. How can I check anything, if I can't get anything on my screen, apart from _ flashing with a black screen

Usually you get the ctrl+alt+del error message when the computer cannot locate an active partition or the mbr is corrupt. Did you maybe have a virus? This could have corrupted the hidden recovery partition. You could try to boot to a windows 7 disk and run these command

"bootrec /fixMBR"
"bootrec /fixBoot"

I doubt this will work but your only other option is to order recovery cds from acere
