Note 5 ruined

I was eagerly awaiting the release of the samsung note 5. I wouldn't have bought one day one, but first time I saw one for a good sale price, I would have probably broken and bought one.
I suspected they would have removed the replaceable battery and the microsd card slot as they did with the samsung galaxy s6, and sure enough they went ahead and did it.

Seems they are trying to copy the apple model in charging people inflated prices for extra storage and forcing people to upgrade sooner when their battery dies. I think some of those edges at the bottom look apple inspired as well.
I hope the note 5 experiences a drop in sales and they go back to the formula that made them the worlds largest seller of mobile phones
Looks like LG is the last one to keep the replaceable battery with their G4, I will probably wait and get a G5 if they continue on with their strategy.

Everyone acts like the lack of replaceable batteries and memory cards is the bane of phones. I really don't get it.

I've never had to replace a battery in a phone before I just decided it was time to upgrade.
If it dies in less than a day, then you should really be considering your charging habits.
I've also never had a problem managing 32 to 64gb of memory space.
I don't need to carry around my entire life's worth of pictures and videos around on my phone.
I don't need to carry around the entire discography of every band I've every heard of on my phone.
I don't need to carry around 10 seasons of different shows and the last 5 years worth of movie releases.
And I don't need to download every app and game available on the play store.

Obviously, everyone uses their phones differently, but to me, the removal of these options (while they are nice to have) just isn't a big deal.
I'll likely skip this version since I just bought the Note 4 in January. Good chance I'll grab 6, though.

I've had to remove the battery on my note 3 a few times already to get my phone to reboot after having issues. I was gonna upgrade to the Note 5 come February but the non removable battery, smaller battery, and design of it probably will not get it. Maybe they bring out a new Nexus by the time I can upgrade. I love the bigger screen, will never get a smaller one. I do believe Samsung is killing themselves by not giving the consumer what they want, yet they wonder why sales is down.

Thats your personal preferences, but everybody uses their phones in different ways. And I am just stating my personal opinion and preferences.
I do swap out the battery from time to time and I do use more than 64gb, I have a lot of music. They don't even have a 128gb version from what I read.
I also gift my phones to family members so they are normally used well beyond just two years.
I dont need like 0.9mm shaved off the thickness and a smaller non removable battery so that they can compete with apple in the race to the thinnest phone.
And I couldn't care less what the back of the phone looks like, because I use a case on the phone.
samsung and lg have done exceptionally well in the mobile space, what has set their phones apart from the rest of the market is a replaceable battery.

I was looking at it, but I just don't like Samsung devices. Too plastic-y and cheap feeling. I'm waiting to see official specs and prices for the Nexus 5 (2015) and I may pick that up. Otherwise I'll get a G4.

Thats the thing I don't like about the nexus program, you don't know what they will do, whether they will even release a nexus 5, 2015, or whether the nexus lineup will even continue.
As a personal preference, I find 5" way too small for a phone. The samsung note 4 has an aluminium frame, only the back cover is plastic, and I like the way it comes off and goes back on so easily. G4 looks ok.

Even then, the Note 4 has that leather texture on it's back, which doesn't feel cheap at all. The Notes are their top of the line phone. It's the S series that looks and feels cheap.

It will be interesting to see if LG release a G4 Pro with a larger screen (around 5.8") to take on the note 5 and iphone 6s

You haven't been following Samsung this year have you? The S6, and Note 5 are all glass and metal. No more cheap plastic feel.

I agree with you though, ian. They took away many of the selling points, replaceable battery, removable storage, and they made the internal battery even smaller than the Note 4.

Although I think they put style over substance, I don't even think that was the motivation, I think it all came down to corporate greed and wanting people to lthrow away their phones and buy new ones when the battery dies or fails to hold a charge properly. I have no problem with them wanting to charge you extra money by having a fixed 128gb internal storage, but not happy with what they did with the battery. For people with with a 128gb card, they had 192gb of total storage and now they are expected to pay more money to just get 64gb max.
I was a bit harsh in saying the note 5 was ruined, if LG also do away with removable batteries, I will probably get another note phone in the future, it just won't be a note 5.

This is exactly it. They shrunk the battery and made it non-removable, but barely long enough to not warrant bad reviews, after use the battery life will get less and less, and will help warrant people upgrading their phones. It also forces people who need more space to pay $100 more for the next size up.

Having the ability to swap out a fully charged battery when you're in a jam and need a charged device but are unable to charge it is valuable to a lot of people. Myself included. Also after a year of use, my S3 would barely limp itself to 3pm on its original battery. A cheap replacement battery on Amazon nearly doubled my battery life. SD slots are preferred because those people that do want that extra space are infuriated by the insane price jumps that manufacturers put on phones with more space. 32GB being the standard storage space should be a reality by now. I have a bunch of music and like the ability to keep it on my MicroSD card as I can pull it out easily and transfer it if needed or even put it in a new phone.
