Notebook crashes when hibernating

Hi to everybody, I'm new to this forum :) and I have a problem:

five months ago I've bought an Asus Notebook (AMD E2 - 1800 1.7 GHz 4GB RAM 500gb HDD) and it worked decently... but for sometime it has been giving me an annoying problem:

whenever I try to hibernate it or to put it in sleep mode, it crashes... in fact the screen turns off but the processor keeps running and after a few minutes it shuts down completely and when I turn it back on, it tells me that the pc has been restarted after there was an unexpected problem...

Can somebody help me fix it? Thankyou

Welcome:)

Is your power profile set to sleep/hibernate when the lid is closed? If it's not, could possibly be a heat buildup from the keyboard area (trapped under screen, slowly overheats CPU for a few minutes before shutting down).

Has it been doing this for the entire 5 months? Does it do that every time? Did you buy it new or used? If you manually put it to Sleep or Hibernate without closing the lid, does the same thing happen?

Hi, imsati, thank you for answering:)

Is your power profile set to sleep/hibernate when the lid is closed? If it's not, could possibly be a heat buildup from the keyboard area (trapped under screen, slowly overheats CPU for a few minutes before shutting down).

Yes, it is set to sleep when the lid is closed, so I don't think that's what happens.

Has it been doing this for the entire 5 months? Does it do that every time?

Yes, but with a lot less frequency at the start (let's say 20% of the time), where now it's roughly 80% of the time...

Did you buy it new or used?

New.

If you manually put it to Sleep or Hibernate without closing the lid, does the same thing happen?

Yes, unfortunately...

And I'd like to add that before trying to put it to sleep/hibernate i always close all opened applications... Would it be helpful if I posted a list of background processes that are usually open, to see if there are some that may be causing this?

EDIT Here it is:

I forgot to mention that I have Windows 8 64 bit.

You've either got a software or a driver issue when hibernating. Lets see if you have had any bluescreens.

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

You have a driver issue.

C:\Windows\Minidump\091113-25927-01.dmp

Zip up that file and attach it to your next reply and it should tell me what driver needs updating.

Its your wireless driver, try updating it. What specific model of laptop do you have?

Ok, the driver from asus is almost a year old. I need you to do the following.

Go into device manager and right click on the wireless devices, should say atheros on it, then click on properties. Go to the details tab and give me the 14 digit device id number. Should look like this dev_xxxx where x is 4 alphanumeric digits. You may have to change the property to hardware id to see it.

Should be 0032

PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_662711AD&REV_01
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_662711AD
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&CC_0280

EDIT btw the name of the device is

Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter

Done, thank you very much for your help... :) I'll let you know if the problem is solved as soon as I can.

Bye

I'm already back, it didn't work...
I restarted the laptop to apply the changes and then I tried putting it to sleep but it crashed after some minutes, here is the info and the .dmp file...

The same driver. Can you go back into the device manager and give me the driver date and version listed? Want to make sure it updated.

Yep, it updated. All I can tell you is that there are lots of issues with hibernation. If a driver update doesn't help then you may be forced to reinstall windows and check results. If reinstalling doesn't solve it you are forced to contact pc maker for support.

Thanks johnb35 for all your help, for now I temporarily solved the problem by disabling the wireless card just before putting the pc to sleep and then re-enabling it after I turned it back on... if I am not able to solve it definitely in some other way, I'll have to send it to assistance...

in the meantime, I have another problem with the same laptop regarding the USB ports (yeah, I wasn't very lucky with this buy :\). Can I post it here or do I open another thread?

Thanks again

If you think its related to this problem then post here. If its not related then post a new thread.
