Notepad + Equations

I'm looking for an application that is basically like notepad, but with the ability to insert equations, like you can do in MS word with 'Microsoft equation'. One reason I don't simply use word, is because i prefer the simplicity of notepad with regards to the structure and ease of use. However, being so simple it does have a few shortcomings.

I'm also looking for a feature that will recognise certain functions and variables in a script (that can be specified), and automatically change the colour of them to make scripting easier to read.

Thanks.

Use wordpad it is a lot different than microsoft word and it should work for what you need it to do. It is located by going to start>all programs>accessories>wordpad

it should be right by notepad.

Thanks. Word pad is more-a-less exactly what I want. I don't think I've used it at all in the past. I can enter the equations now, but how about the second request for auto-colouring script? Any ideas?
