Notes from my first build

First of all, many thanks to all who offered advice and suggestions. I doubt I could have done it without your help. Although I still have some fine tuning and more applications to install, for the most part it's done. I can say that the experience was satisfying. I decided to share some of my thoughts regarding the build process.
The most time consuming part was researching which components to buy, compatibility, what to spend money on to get best bang and still stay under budget. That took 2 weeks. My budget was $1000 delivered, not including rebates. I spent $1002. Hopefully the $20 MIR will come through.
The easiest part was assembling all the parts together, all in all about 3 hours. The interior metal edges are quite sharp. I cut my arm and scratched the plastic case of the hdd pretty good while installing.
The most frustrating part was getting the OS to load. That's probably because I was using a first issue of XP and did not purchase a new one.
If I had to do it all over again I would have spent more money on the case. I thought I read the product description accurately, but instead of 2 case fans it only came with one. The front panel is a bit loose in the top corner from opening a few times. When you plug in headphones to the front jack it feels like I have to force it. I think a solid, very well built case is a good investment.
Thanks again, I'll probably be back with more questions. Now I can add my specs to my sig and make everyone jealous - :D

you dont need to get an expensive case for a basic build. All you need to do is look for the cheapest one that is rated pretty well, has what you need, and you dont mind living with the cons that people mention in their reviews. Obviously liking how it looks helps too.

When I do a major computer upgrade I can find myself spending 4+ hours doing the research and price comparisons.
