my dad is getting this:

he is using it for microsoft office, basic tasks (like checking mail) and alittle listening to music...

Mobo:ASUS P5VD1-X ATX Intel Motherboard
RAM:CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB DDR 400 (PC3200)

Harddrive:Western Digital Caviar SE 120GB 3.5" IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive

Case:COOLER MASTER CAVALIER 3 CAV-T03-UW Silver Computer Case
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W Power Supply

what would be better:
getting 512x2 or one stick of 1gb?

anyone see any other compatibility issues?

Encore, i would recommend getting an x300 and a PCI-E only board, since the PCI-E lane on that only runs at 4x max.

I would also get a SATA drive, since it's faster.

If you do decide to keep that motherboard, the reviews said that they come without any cables, so make sure you have what you need.
 
no, just that one reveiw, it didn't have cables... in the pictures of what it came with it showed the cables didn't it?
and will the video card thing matter if there isn't gona be any games... just basic tasks?

and he wasn't using the PCI-e, he was using the AGP 4x/8x
