DDR right now is faster because the timings for DDR2 are much higher than DDR but I think DDR2 can still get ahead of DDR because of the higher bandwidth it allows for. Here is a pretty good 1GB pack of RAM that isn't too much, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227044
It has a CAS latency of 3 which is better than most other DDR2 RAM at its price range.
Also, I wouldn't jump into unfamiliar territory unless there is a good reason. Why are you going for Intel? Just a question...
Intels are very good but there could be reasons why you should stay with AMD depending on your computing needs. If you just wanted to try something new, go for it!! When you get the Intel system built, post back and tell us how it went, benchmark it too.
