Ntfs.sys missing or corrupt

I'm experiencing problems with a WinXP Pro system which reports Ntfs.sys missing or corrupt.

I have copied the new Ntfs.sys using the recovery console and the WinXP installation disk and the error is still reported.

Does anyone have any ideas?
