NTLDR is missing

I have acquired two past computers to combine them to get one working one. After building it i finially got it running and now when it tries to start windows i get the error:

NTLDR is missing
press ctrl+alt+del to restart

This comes up even when i try to boot from a windows CD or usb.
When I tried to boot a Ubuntu Linux usb drive i get an error:

ubuntu unable to find a medium containing a live file system

Can anyone determine what the problem was? I assumed it's hardware.

start in recovery mode, at the prompt type:
c:\>fixmbr

or whatever your drive is.

then reinstall with your windows cd

there are cd's for rapairing and cd's i've made to reinstall windows. I don't have the repair cd's.

and to zombine210, i can't seem to get into my cd's recovery. Even when i select the cd it processes for a minute then give me the error:

NTLDR is missing
press ctrl+alt+del to restart
 
Use your install disk to copy the files ntldr and ntdetect.com to the root directory

copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

(change 'd' with your cd drive)
