hey!

Im thinkin of gettin new graphics card soon, should it be the "BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC 256MB GDDR3" or the "HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB GDDR3 "? The ATI costs about £60 more but its 512Mb, which do you think i should get? Iv got an ati but was gona go for nvidia but then read a good review about X1800 so cant decide now.

Also, can anyone please tell me why quake 4 says my pc should run it at "low" settings? It lags at medium setting, only when opening doors ect- its not too bad...but still why aint my pc runnin it better?

get the BFG geforce 7800 GTX its a better videocard. and the reason why quake 4 says your pc should run it at low settings is probably because of your videocard

upgrade to at least a gig of non value select RAM.

cheers guys, im planing to get another 512 DDR2 real soon. Dont you think the 512Mb would be much better than the 256Mb Nvidia?, for only £60 more- itsnt it worth it? I also read that ATI have made new drivers that increase framerates for the X1000 cards by 35%.

after you get ur ram, either card will deffinatly boost preformance.

i'd go with either the X1800XT 512mb or 7800GTX 512mb.

X1800XT 512mb is better than 7800GTX 256mb but it is worser than 7800GTX 512mb.

but from these two X1800XT 512mb and 7800GTX 256mb, i would go with X1800XT 512mb

it many reviews the 7800gtx 256mb OC'ed did as good as the X1800XT and the 7800GTX 512mb out performs the X1800XT
but of course a stock 7800gtx 256 will not beat a X1800XT
so id go with the 7800gtx 512mb if you can afford it

I'd go with the 7800GTX 256MB, its a little worse, but is still very good. And is probably alot cheaper.

Also, i would get 2GB of ram.

looks like ill go for the ATI X1800XT 512MB, its £411. I would love the 7800GTX 512MB but that costs £530! How much you think I can eBay my ATI X800XT 500/500 for?, i think i got it for about £325, or somethin like that.

Cheers,

its not, its 500/500 at factory settings, iv overclocked that to higher. Thats the thing, quake 4 says low (although i was just playing it in medium and it seemed ok apart from rarely jumping) but i can run most games on extra high or high - eg Call of Duty 2. so, how much you think i could sell it for?

the spec of the BFG 7800 GTX 256MB is:
- Core clock 460MHz
- 24 Pixel Pipelines
- 1300MHz+ GDDR3 Ultra Fast Memory
- 256-Bit Memory interface
- 8 Vertex Shaders
- Memory Bandwidth - 38.4GB/sec

and the ati X1800XT 512Mb is:
-clock R520XT GPU running at 625MHz
- Based on 0.09 micron manufacturing process
- 16 ultra efficient extreme pipelines
- 512MB GDDR3 Memory running at 1500MHz
- 256-Bit lightning fast memory interface (512-bit Ringbus)
- 8 Vertex Shaders/Geometry Pipelines
- Memory Bandwidth - 48GB/sec

So from Spec it looks like the Ati is better than the nvidia, I think its worth paying £60 quid more for ATI.

the extra 256mb video memory does not improve performance. it's about the clock speeds.
Well if the program utilizes over 256MB of textures, then there would be a performance increase :)
