nvidia 7800gt w/ FEAR and BF2

ok, i just set up a new comp w/ a amd 3700 san diego processor, 1 gig of ram, and a nvidia 7800gt vid card expecting to run everything on full blast, however i still have to run bf2 on medium settings and w/ FEAR i get slow down and low frame rate sometimes.

is there something i can do to improve their performance specifically w/ these 2 games? any drivers i should try?

i would appreciate some input by someone in the know.
 
i have basicly got the same kinda setup u got there, 3700 SD, 7800GT and 1Gig of RAm

I was able to run BF2 at highest settings with only the ocasional hitch in gameplay, not tried fear yet but i bought it today sooo :)

Have you updated all your drivers? if running a duel set ram then make sure they are running in duel channel, i have had a few problems with that.
 
It must be you're processor as I could run BF2 just fine on my 6800GT. I've yet to try on my 7800GT.

Well, also check your drivers and such.
 
Something is not performing as well as it sould, since i can run BF2 and CoD2 on highest settings at acceptable frame rates.
 
my 6600gt was able to run it mostly on high forgot screen size though. no aa's or anything tho.
 
Yea something is definately up. So many things it could be though....How many processes running? Windows updated? Newest drivers of everything? What temps is cpu/gpu running at? RAM timings may be slow.....
 
how can i make sure my ram timings are correct? also, just wondering since im still a newb at this, do i connect my video card power to the main power supply or directly to the motherboard cause i have it connected to my power supply. didnt think this mattered, but just wondered.

oh yea, and what drivers do you recommend?
 
that sounds like a motherboard problemm... dont ask me why, thats just my instinct i could be wrong. anyways, the 7800gt on any game medium settings should get just fine FPS, over 35 at least and also, f.e.a.r. takes ALOT of graphics power..
post the settings you had it on.. resolution and such. saying "medium" settings could mean anything really.
also, AA and AF take the most out of any video card from my experience, try lowering those.
also... enough RAM? maybe your hdd.. or even ram are slow it down.

well, i found out how to greatly increase my fps in FEAR. go into the nvidia properties and turn vertical sync off. it had my limit for some reason locked at 60. this helped greatly cause now when i do the FEAR performance test i get an avg framerate at around 100.

also, i did a 3dmark05 test and scored around a 7500 for gpu and 5000 for cpu. how does this rank w/ a evga 7800gt and a 3700 san diego? do those stats sound ok?
 
I beleive the problem with vsync is that it limits your video to 30FPS(smooth video) If you hit a major snag, you don't have much to fall back on. I could be wrong about this, but I'm guessing :P
 
vsync will keep your fps in tune with your refresh rate... so if you have a monitor @ 70hz and a rig that can keep a game at 70fps, then vsync will keep your fps @ 70. if your hz is 60, and your pc cant keep the fps that high, vsync will keep it at 30 because it is still in sync.
