Nvidia 8m notebook Driver problems

I have a HP computer with nVidia 8400m GS

2 days ago i ran windows update, which I havent done for some time. During the process it updated my graphic card driver to version 195.62 WHQL , which is the newest driver. Everything went fine, and eventually i was told to restart the computer. After the loading screen for Vista (before the login screen) my screen started flashing and got filled with blinking boxes in grey, blue and pink, and the computer froze. I restarted the computer several times but the same thing happened but varied in colors of the boxes. I restarted in safe-modus got past the problem, then disabled the driver and the computer started normally. How can i fix this? I checked nVidia for older drivers, but nothing happens when i click the download links. And nVidia's support tab is the worst thing i have ever experienced. I really apreciate any help, cause at this time even frecell and normal programs dont run properly.

Instead of disabling, could you not have rolled it back to the original, and can you still do this in Device Manager?

I did roll it back, but it went all the way to a standard VGA- driver released in 2006 which is the one im currently using. It makes it possible to start the computer but not much more than that.

Thanks alot. Im not really sure which of the ones to choose, but ill try to find out. All it says on the system info is dv 9500, so i'll do my best :)

Well I just went through all six and they are the same version 7.15.11.7713

Best of luck :)

this question might be slightly off topic, but is it possible that the reason i dont get the download popups is because the graphic card is not properly updated? Cause i went to the link you posted and like any other page I've been on, nothing happends when i click the DL link. I tried with another computer now, and the download started right away. Just need to transfer it after:)

Ok, I got the driver, but same thing happened. Ive tried some other older drivers too, but still same thing happens every time. Is my card broken? If so, how come the computer starts normally with the 2006 driver?

I got the same driver for the same card in my HP from the nVidia site for windows 7 today. If you really want or need that driver, try getting it directly from nVidia

I went directly to nVidia when the problem occured, so i already tried that driver, but i just found out that 7.15.11.7713 is the version that Windows Update downloaded and started it all. im gonna try 7.15.11.7605, see if it works.
