nVidia and multimedia, anyone else experience this problem?

Hey guys, I recently purchased an nVidia 7900gtx to replace my old ATI, and ever since then, I can't watch movies while playing games. I used to be able to do it with my ati but with the nvidia, the movies come out black screened, but the sound is there. Once I shut down the game, the movies run fine again.

Anyone else have this issue? are there any fixes? Thanks

well, there's probably a setting somewhere you have to tweak, look around in the advance control panel, maybe somewhere in overlay or something.

fight click desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Nvidia (or something like that, I have an ATI card) > Overlay settings

Definetly sounds like an overlay problem. It isn't set to duel monitor mode, is it? I don't think this affects newer video cards, but I remember my older ATI required one monitor to be the "primary" one, which videos actually showed on. The secondary monitor(which didn't even have to be the one without your desktop on it) couldn't show videos...

Yup.

Could it be something as simple as making sure to uninstall the old ATI card and drivers?

Yep. I just put in my Geforce 7800 to replace my Radeon 9800 Pro. I didn't uninstall catalyst and the ATI overclocking program and I was getting about 40 FPS in COD2 and about 20FPS in HL2. I uninstalled all of the ATI software and bingo, 80FPS in COD2 and 40-140 FPS in HL2. Makes a hell of a difference lol, I don't think Nvidia and ATI like each other too much :o

when i installed the graphics card, it was done on a fresh hard drive, there are no ATI drivers on there

snow: are you able to play games and watch movies at the same time?
