I download the latest video driver from nvidia and I can not figure out how to install it. I am a complete idiot when it comes to linux. I am using ubuntu 8.04. The file I downloaded is a .run file. This is what I do. I open terminal, log in as root, type in sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.05-pkg2.run and it says can't open NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.05-pkg2.run.

First thing you gotta know about linux is that it's difficult to get certain drivers. I had to switch back to windows on my old laptop cuz ati didnt support the old ati mobility drivers, and on top of that D-Link didn't have any drivers that I could use with ndiswrapper. annoying? YES. But everythings fixable. O and on my desktop my video card installed automatically

O yah try putting a sudo in front, make it look like

sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.05-pkg2.run

If the problem is no admin

O yah one more thing, make it executable and it should be like

sudo sh /user/desktop/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.05-pkg2.run

it's not going to look exactly like this.
to find the location look at NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.05-pkg2.run properties
