Nvidia Driver Updating Issue

My Windows 7 Nvidia drivers are the originals from 7/2009 when I click in device manager under display adapters to update them it says they are up to date. (Seems like a long time to have no update???) I checked the Nvidia driver website for my Geforce 9100 integrated graphics card, and it shows a new update on 1/2011. I downloaded it, and installed it everything worked fine. Went back to driver update again, & it showed my updated drivers installed, & I clicked update drivers again to see if I had missed anything, and it installed my old drivers back again????????????
WTF So right now I'm leaving the old drivers on.

Its probably just using whatever drivers Windows has tucked away in its repositories. I'd use the most up to date drivers personally, and not trust the control panel for stuff like that. Although if you aren't having issues with the current drivers then you don't really have to upgrade them.

When updating graphics card drivers, it's best to make a system restore point before doing anything else and have an exe file of the current driver you have as well as the latest one saved into your desktop. Then uninstall the current one you have through device manager. Restart your computer and go into safe mode, then run some type of software that will delete any remaining registry for the graphics card. After doing that, restart your computer normally and install the latest version without any AV programs running. Hopefully you should not experience any problems afterwards unless you mess up at some point or its the driver itself.

P.S. As the guy above me stated: [Its probably just using whatever drivers Windows has tucked away in its repositories. Although if you aren't having issues with the current drivers then you don't really have to upgrade them.] The person is right, you really don't need to upgrade your graphics card unless its making your computer act crazy or want to play a game that requires the latest version.
