NVIDIA Drivers Crashes

Hey,

Having some serious issues with NVIDIA drivers at the moment. I'm on the 285.86 drivers with a GeForce GTS 450 SC from EVGA, and the drivers crash when I play Dirt 3, BUT here's the thing, it's not just when I play Dirt 3, it sometimes crashes randomly. Sometimes they will crash when I'm on the internet, or writing a Word document or whatever. This is really starting to get on my nerves now, and it's been happening since I reinstalled Windows 7 just over a month ago. Before I reinstalled Windows 7, I was using these drivers and I didn't have any problems at all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling them and it's not it made any better, in fact I'd say it's made it worse, and I've tried lowering the settings on Dirt 3 (was using everything on High and 1280x720 before) to medium but it still crashes. What can I do about this? I still have the older 275 drivers from July, do you think I should get rid off the 285 drivers and use the 275 ones instead?

Thanks,

Yes, thats how you troubleshoot things, by uninstalling and reinstalling a different set of drivers. I had an issue with ati drivers for a 3870 on xp. Couldn't update past october 2009 or would keep having issues with it.

Right OK I have removed the 285.62 drivers and put the older 280.26 drivers back on. These drivers are from September 2011 and I don't remember having any problems with them. We'll see how I get on with the older drivers. Turns out I still had both 275 and 280 drivers.

Yeah I noticed that last time I installed beta drivers with Nvidia, the older drivers where sitting in the same folder as the new one. I have been having the same issue with my card with the same drivers, strange part is a simple system restart solves my issue for about two weeks and then random driver crashes out of nowhere. I updated my motherboard BIOS today but there are still some issues. What brand is your motherboard?

Motherboard is a crappy Foxconn H55M-S, I hate this board! :( My i5 760 CPU and half of my RAM (4GB, I added another 4GB to make 8GB) came with it as a bundle.

Well I've got the 280 drivers back on so I'll see how that goes, hopefully won't lose any performance in Dirt 3 with the older drivers.

The 280 drivers were still playing up, so yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and reinstall Windows 7 yet again. Everything is fine now and the drivers are so far so good. :)
