Hello everybody.
Here is my problem...i just baught a new system without a videocard. And i don't know which one to buy. I am not bothered buy the price just the performance. I searched threw the internet and found two best (in my view) videocards, they are: Nvidia geforce 7800 GTX 512 mb and ATI X1800 XT 512 mb. Which one should i buy?

My specs:
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.73 Ghz)
Asus P5WD2 premium WiFi TV-edition
2x 500gb Seagate Sata 2 16mb cache
Creative X-Fi Elite Pro

from what ive read the 7800gtx will be the better of the two. there is however, a new version of the 7800gtx with 512 megs of ram which is clocked higher (i dont know if its gonna be rebranded and a 7800 ultra though).
if you do decide to go with either of these cards you'll need to make sure you have a strong psu

Thanx for the advise and i think that i am going to buy the 7800 gtx with 512 mb ram.
I didn't buy a special PSU, i have a Q-Tec Triple Fan PSU with 650 Watt, will that be enough or do i need a better one, and if so...any sugestions?

My specs:
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.73 Ghz)
Asus P5WD2 premium WiFi TV-edition
2x 500gb Seagate Sata 2 16mb cache
Creative X-Fi Elite Pro
2x 2gb ram Kingston

Your PSU is probably strong enough. I say go with the less expensive one (they are both good and will probably perform very comparably)

also i'd steer well clear of the q-tech psu, i have seen six of these power supplies either not work, be very unstable or not work at all.

Okay, i took out the standard q-tech psu (don't want risking any damage to my comp) and baught a new Enermax Noisetaker 600 ATX. It's expensive but i think it will be worth it.
Thanx to the new thread about geforce 7800 gtx with 512mb my doubts are now gone and i bought one just today and waiting for it to arive...
Can't wait to try it out:)

i just bough that one too.. :D but it still has to be shipped... 36A @ +12V is enough for 2 6800ULTRA's.. so its shure enough for a 7800GTX.

thats gonna be one hell of a gaming machine.

yea he have 4GB of ram, Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, Creative X-Fi , Geforce 7800GTX 512 mb, and ITB HDD:D

i think he just need another 7800GTX and he will blow up any game for 3 years if not more

and i think that this person is very rich because this machine that he have costs atleast 5000$, if not 6000$

is it worth spending 20 bucks more for the verto geforce 6600 256ddr3 or should i just stay with the geforce 6200 256mb ddr overclocked

what would be better the Radeon X700 Pro Video Card, 8x AGP, 256MB GDDR3 for $200 bucks or the Verto GeForce 6600 Video Card, 8x AGP, 256MB DDR3 for $180?

y not get a 6800GS for $209? and its better than both cards

Yes, it is expensive. You need to have a good income or really rich/generous parents who like giving you expensive gifts. ;)
And you need to be a freek when it comes to playing games. I just have to play games with everything set to maximum. If it's not...i just don't play it. I had an old computer which was AMD Athlon 3000+ Geforce 6800 GT extreme 256mb and 1GB ram. But when games like Fear, Quake 4 started coming out, wasn't any longer good enough to play at max (low frame rate), so i bought a new one.
And as to the question of how much it cost well...everything new (comp+keyboard+mouse+30 inch LCD) around 10.000 euros. (Not dollars cause i live in Europe). Without Apple Cinema Display 30" around 6000/7000 euros. And i bought almost every single piece of the computer in different places. So i can't say that i bought it at one shop. Most of the parts i ordered using internet. Why? Try buying Pentium Extreme edition in a normal computer shop, or Geforce GTX 512 mb. They just don't have such things.

What do you mean??? two videocards in one computer? Is that possible? Can i really get two Geforce 7800GTX 512 mb in one computer? If it is...i am buying one more videocard...

yes it is possible to put two video cards in one computer. It's called SLI. You will need an SLI compatible motherboard to support it though.
