Hey guys I just finish building my first rig with all brand new parts. This might be a dumb question but, I have a dell boot disk that my brother said would load windows xp, on the cd it says for REINSTALLATION so it probably wont work right? The disk boots up but after it does its thing and tries to load windows I get a STOP: c0000221 uknown hard error\systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll Is this because its not the right disk or because i have a hardware problem?

Ok so if it was a proper windows disk it should install windows as windows xp sp2 detects all hardware that windows 7 can. Therefore the disk you have is just a recovery disk and not a proper Windows XP Pro disk and will only comply with dell hardware.

If It's a Dell disk, I'm pretty sure they detect weather or not the computer it's being used on is a Dell, and if it has a license for that OS. When you install that to a Dell, it won't even ask for the key...

Works I guess, but you're going to have to buy Win7 in a couple of years...XP loses all support in 2014. You'll also only be able to use 3GB of your RAM.

2014 is still three years away...an eternity in computers....im suprised its going this long...when was xp released? i cant recall.

:good:Yea i plan on upgrading to 7 soon, I was just anxious to get my 1st build going so i thought this was a cheap and quick way to do it.......btw I am on my new build now and everything thing is working out WOOT!:D

^^ Congrats! I can't wait until I have enough money to build!

EDIT- BTW, XP was released late 2001, October 25, 2001 to be exact.
