Object-oriented programming: Java vs. C++

Hey guys, it has been a while since i've posted here. I have recently decided to make computer programming my major in college and I have a long list of things to learn along the way.

I thought I would start teaching myself these languages online just as a do when I want to learn anything, so I was wondering which would be more benificial to learn at first. I'm sure over the next few years I will have time to learn at least a few languages to a somewhat pro-status, but I don't know which really would help more. I know the basics of algorithms and designs and have used C to make fairly simple programs.

So what do you think? Java or C++ for a beginner to OOP?

Yes I would personally go with c# like dropkickmurphys said. I learn c# - it's pretty easy to start out with and then naybe after go on to learn c++ after? You said you've used c before which I think will put u at a slight advantage :D

Especally with microsofts visual c# express 2010 which is free but a very good program (probably the visual studio is the only microsoft sofyware for windows i actully like)and if you really want to take up C# seriously then go onto the full microsoft visual c# package

Holly xx
