oblivion lagging

got a new comp
posted this issue on many websites just want to hear yours

oblivion is really choppy it looks like its on meth

my peers say its because of my onboard audio card...

and told me to install the quiet feet mod

and as the instructions told i inserted the quiet feet file in the data folder..but it still no improvement

what ever graphics setting or resolution the game still lags

please help
 
It has nothing to do with your onboard audio. Why would that make the video lag? Ya know? It looks like you have the computer power to play the game well though so it's not your hardware.
 
oblivion has major issues with onboard sound as there are many unneccesary sound effects. apparently wolfs and horses make 1 seperate sound effect for every foot that hits the ground which blows onboard sound and making it laggy.

update all your drivers including chipset, also try doing a clean boot in windows. If you have any mods uncheck them so they dont run in the game.
 
Before I got a dedicated soundcard, I used to run Oblivion on an onboard soundcard and had no issues whatsoever.
 
Yeah, I don't think sound has anything to do with it. If anything, a mod would make it slower. Your hardware should max it no problem, so I would say reinstall. Also check out FRAPS to see what your framerate actually is.
 
hell your hardware is fine. with my mediocre rig, i max it out w/HDR and 4X AA with Ntune. and lag is nonexistent.


so like others have said, update your drivers and update the game too.
 
My suggestion? take out the soundcard, almost every game has issues with at least one sort of soundcard, so just take it out and run onboard, if that doesn't work then at least you'll know your soundcard is fine :p Another thing to check is temperatures and background processes, as these can both lead to poor performance in graphically intensive programs

haha the oblivion people say its the sound onboard that is casuing this problem
and i should get a seperate sound card lol
 
Well I'm assuming this isn't happening in any other gamnes you play?

Well yeah there's no harm in trying using a sound card just get a fairly cheap one; or if its possible try and borrow one from another computer.
 
You don't have (problem) stuff running in the background do you?

And just a random idea.... try disabling your internet connection while playing. Doing this fixed Assassins Creed for me.
 
I noticed an improvement in performance and stability on my old computer when I disconnected from the internet so that I could safely disable the firewall and a bit unwillingly disable the antivirus software.
 
I would disable sound all together to see if that is actually the problem. Go to Start>>Run(Start>>Accessories>>Run if you are using vista) and then enter in 'dxdiag', not quotes. Then select the sound tab, and move the slider so it says "Basic Acceleration". Then run oblivion, go under audio settings and turn all the sounds off. See if that does anything.
