Just a little off topic... Bigsaucybob where did you get so many posts like 2 months aga you were only a gold member? Have u been posting like crazy?

You will likely get very close to max, but just short. All in all, for a perfectly acceptable framerate you will have probably have to tone down a couple things.

Amd

Go with amd you will get far better performance with games like oblivion!! unless there are some specific programs that you will be running that utilize an intel CPU. also you might want to go far a mobo that allows a possible expansion to sli so you can do that upgrade without upgrading mobo and gpu at same time

Haha yea pretty much. I guess, i go on about 3-5 times a day depending on what day it is.

On topic: have u tried overclocking, that could improve gameplay. You could get that processor up to 3.5-3.8Ghzish.

OCing a Prescott? Maybe not a good idea, depending on what cooler you have. Whats your cooling configuration?

Maybe not as high as I mentioned but you could still overclock a bit, but yes it really does depend on your cooling.

I don't really think a little overclock of the cpu is gonna be of much help as now days games use more of the graphics than anything else, you may get like 1-2fps more but thats about it really, the only way you are going to see a great increase in performance is by getting a better graphics card of going SLi, I would either reccomend a 7900gt instead and overclocking it or another 7800gt in the future, Overclocking your card with coolbits could be a bit of a help with performance, might be able to get to gtx speeds ( don't quote me on that cos I can't remeber the gtx speed ).

Jason:)

Every little bit helps.

Why is everyone saying "YES" ?

You guys don't even know how demanding oblvions is with maxed out settings.

NO you will not max out, sorry. You will still have high settings, but not MAX. 7900GTX doesn't even max out the game and not dip into low fps.

A 7900GTX doesnt max out the game? Maybe not with a Pentium 4 at 2.8GHZ. Does a 7900GTX really not max it out?

what about 2 7900GX2's in SLi or 2 X1900XTX's in Crossfire:P surely they can handle it with 2gig ram n a nice dual core AMD!

That's not the point. The point is a 7800GT won't max out the game. For oblvion, I would rather have two 1900XTX's because from the benchmarks above, they can handle higher settings and still get higher frame rates then the 7900GTX OC.

Is oblvion multi-threaded? If not, a dual core CPU wouldn't take a lead in performance of gaming compared to a single core.

Unfortuneatly, thats not the case, he cant get 2 X1900XTX's. But i see what your saying. With the P4 processor and a 7800GT you can probably reach medium settings which isnt too bad. If it really bothers you that much, save some money for an Xbox 360 and buy Oblivion and play on max settings.

I never suggested he buy two 1900XTX's. I was replying to the post above. He said two 7900GTX or 1900XTX and I was sharing my opinion of what I would rather have in that case.
