OC Freeze

Hey guys. I have just recently flashed my crippled Gateway custom BIOS to the ECS official BIOS which is the Phoenix Award BIOS 6.00pg. My motherboard is an ECS 945-GCT M3 V3, and by flashing to the official BIOS I unlocked the OC options. I have a problem now though, because when I change the CPU clock at all, I get one of two things.

Both things begin with my computer restarting. However it will power up and the fans will start spinning, but I wont get a picture on the monitor. The only way I can restore my PC is to take out the CMOS battery and put it back in. Other times my computer will boot into the BIOS but the BIOS wont detect my HDDs and will just hang until I again, take out the battery and replace it.

I just dont know how to go about overclocking my PC now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I have checked the temps and they are fine, and my CPU is a Pentium Dual Core E2160 which I did hear is very good for OCing.

How much are you changing your clock by? Are you changing your FSB or your multi? While your chip may OC well it doesn't mean your mobo can handle it. You also need to keep an eye on your RAM speeds if you are changing your FSB. It is best to underclock the RAM while overclocking your CPU to make sure you are not having RAM issues. Once your desired cpu OC is reached you can set your RAM back to stock speeds.

Well I dont have any options to underclock my RAM, via software or BIOS. As for the overclock, I cant even change the setting. I moved up the FSB by like 5mhz and it freezes up my PC if I use software or it screws up my computer if I do it in BIOS via "CPU Clock". I also am overclocking the FSB because I you cant touch the multiplier on this CPU.

You can flash the BIOS 2 ways.

The first way is to download the MoBo BIOS update from your Motherboard manufacturers website. Then you copy the BIOS update utility and the actual bios file, (usually a .bin) and the update file to a 1.44MB 3.5" bootable floppy disk. You than insert the floppy with the files, and reboot your pc. You will than be loaded into DOS. You then have to execute the BIOS update utility and select your BIOS file and bingo, you have a flashed BIOS.

The second way, is to flash the BIOS in Windows. This is pretty much self expanatory, because most of the utilities have a readme for flashing it in Windows.

Hope that at least somewhat answers your question. :)

I just want to OC my processor :) I can OC Video card just fine but Processor is a no go I can underclock the CPU rofl :)

Brand name PCs are notorious for their inability to overclock. I would say your system is just incapable of overclocking as is. It may be your RAM, mobo, or PSU. All I can really do is guess here. If you want to overclock it is best to build your own system.

If only I had the money :D. I could probably put together 95% of it myself, but my dad is the skeptical type, and he wouldnt trust me do something like that :). Im always squeezing the most out of my PC :)
