oc question

hello all

the computer im talking about is in my sig
ive got my p4 oc'ed by 200 Mhz perfectly fine completely stable but when i increase it any more the cpu temps stay the pretty much the as the original temp of the p4 (before oc) and it all looks fine in the bios and POST's fine but windows wont boot does this mean its unstable (which i kinda think it does) or am i missing something, ive heard this board should be able to go higher than this, ive seen it at 3.53 Ghz

i was starting to think it was the ram, tryin to find a way to overclock it? is there any way to overclock the ram?
i got my sig wrong i have 3 sticks at pc2100 and for some reason one stick at pc2300 wth?
the max this board supports is pc 2100 or so it says.
how did they get it up to 3.53Ghz since they would have used ram at this speed? (when the board first came out years ago)
 
You sure? I never seen a overclock hindered by the ram...I mean mine run at stock speeds with a overclocked quad.

When it fails to boot up it means it needs a voltage bump for the CPU when it happens for me. I change ram to ensure its always near stock as overclocked ram really doesn't give much in return for the risk.

Ofcourse it does. For example the system in your sig and assuming you're running at 1:1 ratio FSB:RAM which is 400x2=800 falls within the specification or your 800MHz rams. That's merely 800Mhz overclocked from stock and that's fine as it is.
I'm sure you would have a hard time running any higher than 420 FSB. The only way to overclock higher is to overclock your rams or replacement with higher speed rams like PC8500.....and to overclock your rams that means loosen it with added voltage to the rams.

as i have already said this board and cpu has been oc'ed to 3.53 Ghz in the reviews and the ram they had avaible at the time was only pc2100 so it can obviously be done, if the ram was to low surely the computer wouldnt post correctly it would just fail completly? and it seems as though the rams fsb is being raised in line with the cpu

i tried to up the cpu voltage by .25 but without any success

if it is the ram is it possible to make the ram and cpu unlinked or something? or do you have an option to manually clock the ram if you can, set the ram to a lower than stock clock and then just work it up to normal with your cpu overclock
 
i only have the option cas latency options in the bios for the ram nothing else, i have ddr voltage options as well but no option to overclock, the ram that i can see, which is strange since you can change the voltage of the ram
 
well beats me cos am really just a noob in this field, with only 1 overclock lol

When you overclock by the Bus it will increase the memory speed as well, unless you have a unlock feature of the memory from the bus speed. PC 2100 is DDR266. DDR266 really runs at 133mhz. If you have a setting for your memory speed, the easiest way would be to bump it back to 100/200 ever how the bios reports it. If not you will need to bump up your memory voltage by small amounts. Say if its stock voltage is 2.5V try 2.6V. Plus the CPU might need alittle voltage bump too.

tried it didnt work bumped up the cpu voltage and ddr voltage no success again POST's fine no errors just gets to the windows splash screen and then restarts stating to think it is a ram limit as i couldnt find the review where it said 3.53 Ghz but i saw one where the board was oc'ed to 3.73 and that was using pc3500 so may maybe that is why, since for some reason i have 1 stick at pc 2300 (no idea why) might just use that to see if i get higher clocks but that requires alot of effort and i dont think win 7 will work very well with 512 Mb of ram :P so it kinda of makes the speeding up my computer act a bit pointless lol
 
bumped the voltage up from 2.5 to 2.6 and cpu voltage by .25 v

i have no options for the ram divder and it is just being overclocked with the cpu which i think means it is at 1:1 but no option to change or even view what it is set at

i could probable pick up higher clocked ram quite cheap may look into as it could be a fun project
 
I had to downclock my RAM from DDR2 800 to DDR2 533 in order to get my 3GHz OC stable...

then again, i havent raised my voltages...

But with my OC, im Running 800MHz, at CL4, instead of 1050 MHz at CL6...
 
After reading up on the board it has no CPU/Memory ratio settings. You could try raising your memory timing to see if that helps any.
