Oc'ed... slight "jumping" effect in games?

Okay, so my CPU is nice and stable at 3ghz... 8 hours overnight on prime95 confirms that :)

But when i am playing games, every couple of seconds the game "jumps" foward a bit and animations seem to skip a little. is this normal? should i lower my overclock? What can i do?

I've tried many games, some games are unaffected (Assassin's Creed) others are lightly effected (CSS) and others it's really noticable and annoying (Far Cry 2)

Any ideas? it's freezing or anything, it's like when your fps are high and it jumps low for a second.

well. that's typical if you have high heat on your graphics card, could be the same with cpu. check your load temps.

and also check if you have ACC or whatever automatic clock tool there is for energy efficiency on your board. disable it.

Yeah i've disabled all that. I'll look into my GPU temps. CPU temps never got over 55*C in 8 hours of prime95.

EDIT: Did a little testing. GPU temps are mid 60's. maybe i'll turn the voltage down a notch on my CPU

well i downed the voltage and kept the fsb the same. helped a bit, but still jumping a lot in far cry 2. It's late now, so i'll set it to 2.8 or 2.9 tomorrow.

Update: lowered the fsb to make the clockspeed 2.97ghz. It is actually performing faster in SuperPi and the jumping effect is almost completely gone now!
