OCing 8500GT 1G

I can't complain about this card as it was an X mas gift from my wife and friend to go along with a 22" Widescreen monitor. : D I was under the impression as most people probably are, that with it being a 1G card, it should play everything on max setting without any issues....and of course it doesn't. My current setup is a Dell E510 P4 3.0, 2G Ram, Seagate 250G HDD, just upgraded to a BFG 550w PSU, and Evga 8500 GT 1G. I have been reading about OCing these but it seems kinda confusing since there is/was a 512 and a 256 8500 GT also... Can anyone help me or should I just go to another card..assuming they will even let you return these >.<

Right now I mainly play wow, but I also want to get a newer FPS and play it.

My Temps atm are about 56 at idle and it gets to 75-80C when I am actually playing a game.

at 75-80C, you are hitting temperatures too high to risk increasing the speed. My suggestion would be to just go to newegg.com if your in the united states or canada, or go to ebuyer.co.uk if you are in the UK, and look for a video card there.

or, what is your budget and where do you live and i'll find a nice card for you.

They are terrible cards aren't they :P

Thing i've found with mine though is that the temperature barely increases when overclocked. I took the 450Mhz original core clock to 620Mhz and and upped the memory 70Mhz and only saw 2*C difference, just give it a go. I recommend ATITool for overclocking it.

What FPS games are you planning on playing? Mine is alright on CS:Source, HL2 etc. and works decent on COD4, just all a little choppy :/ but then again i don't own a 22" monitor ;)

Well, it was kinda a suprise from the wife and friend for xmas.....I was looking at the 9800 GT OC for 149.99 and a 9800 GTX+ OC for 212.49.

Can you even return a video card once it's installed?

I was running 11-20 FPS on WoW with shading all the way up, I turned it all the way down with textures and most everything else maxed and I was running about 30 FPS

As far as that goes, I wanna play some of the newer stuff, all I have played is WoW for like the past 3 years...but I want to play stuff like Bioshock, the new FC, etc.

So far I have gone from 500-550 on core and 400-450 on memory. The only change I see as far as temps has been 1C higher...although it does get there alot more slowly with the 'stock' clock/mem speed.
