OCing a CPU with a Biostar mobo. (First time OC'er)

Edited due to others worries and proofs :p

I wanna OC my CPU, but i dont wanna go into my BIOS to do it (first time, kinda scared)

Anyways i was looking at the mobo manual, and it says there is the Biostar T-Force Hardware monitor and OC'ing program. Well i cant find it. Where can i find it.

And can someone try guide me through what to do. (like raise v, then the CPU speed etc)

i know there are applications that allow you to OC from the desktop, but that's very rare. i would just do it from the BIOS.

if your mobo even allows you to OC, then first raise the FSB by 5mhz at a time and stress test it until it's not stable anymore. then raise the vcore about .025 at a time until until it's stable again. there ya go... thats OCing in a nutshell. there's actually a lot more to it than that but that is basically how you do it.

the comp you're trying to OC has the specs in your sig right?
 
Firstly I recommend you download Orthos, it makes a great stress-test tool. Firstly increase the FSB by 5-10MHz and then reboot and run Orthos for a while (half an hour should do). If it's stable go back and increase the FSB until either the PC refuses to boot (clear the CMOS) or Windows doesn't want to start. When this happens you want to incrament the voltage a tiny bit, your's may do it differently but mine gives me a range of voltages and I increase the voltage by one of the values each time.

Keep in mind during all of this the PCI-E bus and memory clock speeds will increase. The PCI-E bus must stay at 100MHz! Otherwise stability becomes an issue. Also change the memory multiplier to make it fairly close to stock, if you can't lower it start increasing the voltage to the RAM sticks slowly.

Bare this in mind though, I got my overclock easily because my motherboard has a mondo heatpipe on it coving the VRM's (which will get hot!), northbridge and southbridge. You'll need some way of cooling them to avoid them buring out because if those chips get too hot the motherboard will start to die!
 
the newer biostar t force boards aren't so bad for the money i have a ta770 and it works great the tforce software is on the disc that comes with the board i oc my 5200 brisbane from 2.7 to 3.1 with it at stock voltage and its really stable ran prime95 for 8 hours with no problems you need to go into bios to set the overclock to automatic to use the tforce program set it to v8 not v12 took mine to 3.3 but became unstable within 5 min running the stress test
 
Well thats correct, but i have my own way to oc.
1st way i should know how far i can push the cpu clock (i know from other member that have the same cpu as mine and oc it) and i wil go step by step.
My mb only allow me to oc in 3 steps at fsb 1333, 1470, 1600 if i go any higher or lower it will eventually increase / decrease my ram speed so i should stick with above sets if i dont want my ram get oc'ed or slowed.
After that just increase the voltage just a little bit if the oc isn't stable, keep watching those temperature though.
 
My CPU is a E6400 2.13Ghz 2Mb L2 Cache. How much of an OC do you think i can get?

ok well i found the t utility software.

I have now overclocked my comp to 2.6Ghz, But i see no increase in CPU temp and fan speeds. Is that normal?

Also, now my computer gets stuck. But everytime i open the software it only does it.

I went into the BIOS and the clock was stock. So what should i trust, the program or BIOS?
And i realised that my CPU has a lock, and i can only change my Frequency :confused:

Edit: Here is my mobo. Check the manual cause i dont really understand this stuff. I need to be baby fed (because i dont want to make a mistake :P)

its probably the oc utility causing you to hang. i have a similar program with my msi board-sometimes it would work and sometimes it would hang.
 
Um this is what CPU-z says: (by the way does the program show your new OC?)

Vcore: Between 1.120 and 1.020

Core speed: 1600Mhz (only goes to 2.13Ghz when multiplear is x8)
Multiplier: x6 (sometimes changes to x8)
Bus Speed: 266.7Mhz
Rated FSB: 1066Mhz

So technically im running at 1.6Ghz????

The reason your multiplier is lowering itself is because SpeedStep. SpeedStep lowers your power usage when you're not doing anything CPU demanding by reducing the speed of your processor.
 
ok ok cool. so my multiplier full is x8 and lowered x6.

Ok well since i cant change my multiplier (Damn the intel block) i will have to increase core clock. Also i will have to increase CPU & RAM voltage by a little if i cant go anymore (but first CPU).

Hey guys. I OCed, it doesnt work.

Now my comp switches on, but does not go into windows. I even cleared the CMOS data and returned everything to normal?

What must I do?
 
I asked our computer guy? and he says its a windows problem, That is also linked to my hard drives. He says they might have died or not being read properly.

Is it possible to OC your Hard drives?

And this happened dtraight after i overclocked from BIOS. Is it possible that its coincedence or an OC Problem?
