OC'ing---CPUz question

Hey everyone.. It's been a while since I've been here:rolleyes:. but I'm back with a question...
My Intel processor came under clocked (of course), with the multiplier only at 6 rather than 9, which gives me the speed its advertised as (Q6600 @2.4 GHz), so of course, I put the multiplier up to 9. However, when I run CPU-Z, the core speed darts back and forth between 1600 and 2400 MHz, and the multiplier between 6 and 9.... Does this mean that every couple seconds the processor is slowing down only to speed back up seconds later? Or is there something wrong with CPU-Z?

-I had this problem with my E6400 a ways back, maybe somehow i did something wrong?

thanks all

Its called CIE1 I think. Its like AMD's speedstep. It underclocks your CPU when its not being used. Its no problem :)

the q6600 underclocks iteself when idle. this is a good thing so i would just leave it since you're CPU wont be working at full load all the time... only when needed...

It's not underclocked from the factory, it's Intel's power saving feature which lowers the multiplier and voltage.
