OC'ing in Vista

Synesthesia

This really pisses me off. In XP I had my E6750 running at 3.5 Ghz at 1.425 volts, with the ram (Ocz Reaper 800mhz) at 1025mhz. I ran a combo of Prime95 and SuperPie simultaneously for 35 hours before an error came up, and I could have likely pushed the processor to 3.8. Now with Vista, my ceiling is at 3.2 Ghz (1.5v), 980mhz with marginal stability. I thought that it might have been a Bios driver stability issue with Vista, so today I finally figured out how to flash the bios and upgraded to the latest version. Guess what.....no difference. It is purely Vista that is holding me back. Did Microsoft decide to lower overclocking potential to force customers to buy higher priced equipment? or is it just that they have some real morons working for them that completely F*d up this new OS.

How high can you guys oc in Vista 64bit?

At least the system does not seem to effect my 8800GT; like in XP I am still running 720, 2020 on it.

BTW, the oc ceiling exists in the form of my computer not rebooting after saving the Bios; I can't actually get into the OS to test it out. Is there a way to make it reboot correctly? Pressing the reset button only restores the previous settings.

WOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!11!!1!!

omg......just tried to push my NB PCI-E frequency from 110 to 115 in an attempt to make my 8800GT run faster; to compensate for potential lower stability I lowered my cpu from 1600 to 1575, and my ram (linked) from 975 to 950. I tried 5 times to boot the computer, I even set the NB frequency back to 110 but no luck. So then I decided to return the last thing to normal, the ram and cpu speed. IT WORKED. By overclocking them higher my computer booted on the first try!!! WHAT IS THIS? Does this mean that I could be successful trying much higher OC's???

I didn't know there were gaps......well anyways, I just managed to hit 3.6 Ghz. Ran Prime95 for 10 hours with zero errors. I would go higher...but my power supply suffers an exponentially increasing voltage drop as I OC higher. Which means that I cannot set my voltage above 1.45v. Maybe if I can get 1.5 it would work at 3.8 Ghz. I got a new power supply today, so maybe I'll be running 3.8 by tonight. :)
How high can you set the voltage without damaging the cpu? Heat isn't a problem for me, I have a massive 120mm fan copper and AL heat sink.

ok, ok....I guess Vista isn't all that bad.
