OCz Agility 3 Problems

I am doing a gaming PC build today, and it's my first one with a SSD. I bought a OCz Agility 3, and I'm having a bit of trouble. I need to update the firmware on the disk but I can't boot when the disk is plugged in. Can I hotswap the disk and plug it in while the PC is turned on? Just trying not to fry a 200$ SSD.

Thanks for the quick help!

I don't think there is anything wrong with the drive. Everybody is complaining about the firmware, I am just not 100% sure how to update it.

Looks like the latest firmware release might be 2.11. Check it out.

This updater tool looks to be up to ver 2.06 or 2.08.

OCZ should have the updater tool for the latest FW that you can burn or put to USB stick.

Connect the SSD to the first mb sata port (labeled 0 or 1).
In the bios set the Sata type to ACHI for that port.
Boot from the cd/usb stick that has the updater on it, and follow the instructions.
Fresh install the OS.

I cant even get into the BIOS when the ssd is connected. It has some graphical error and freezes at the BIOS screen. It won't let me into the boot menu.

Which is why I'm wondering if I can hot swap the drive.

No you can not just hot swap the drives, and even if it were theoretically possible, which it isn't, we would never advise plugging in parts whilst the system is being powered, for the sake of component health and your own.

I have had the very same drive you are using fail on me, but never refuse to boot or cause any problems (except for when faulty). I would just take it back to the place of purchase and ask for a replacement, else RMA the drive with OCZ

Thanks, that's the answer I need.
