OCZ StealthXtream Squeel Noise

My ocz power supply has always made a slight high pitched noise but now after moving to a new case and adding components its very high and annoying even over all of the fans. Is this normal, can I stop it or should I send it back on the three year warrenty..
 
no that's definitely not normal. if it has a three year warranty, you might as well take advantage of it. power supplies aren't something you want to mess around with (when they fail they can cause damage to other parts as well). send it back, get a new one, and be done with it.
 
i remeber reading somewhere about capacitors squeeling, it may not blow but you will be able to claim on the warranty!

i suggest you go through the warranty
 
you know what, I actually received my 1000 watt Antec power Supply today, and It makes a squealing sound too. Weird.

Well, its actually the coils.


What you are experiencing is called coil whine, at worst its just annoying. Power Supplies, Motherboards, Graphics cards, all can exhibit coil whine. RMAing the unit may get you one that doesnt whine, but coil whine will not affect life expectancy of the unit.

Thanks will contact them if really gets on my nervs by e-mail if I can find there address because its annoying and it changes due to the load put on it.
 
i would contact them anyway,If you have warrenty...use it! ;)

Shouldnt have to put up with any wierd noises.
 
Done it and they responded even this late and its 10:34pm in uk within minutes and will replace it just asking them if its going to cost to send it back. It does it even when my pc is switched off now which is also annoying..
 
They said I have to send it to neverlands its so far it would cost me half the supply price so I have contacted the place I brought it from. I cant belive this now its got so loud and high pitched that its hurting my ears so I am using ear plugs I have from work its unbelievable im not joking. Also it does it even when the pc is shut down..
